This work is called Broken Spears, referencing a Mexica(Aztec) poem written shortly after conquest.

A 220x200cm oil painting telling a tale inspired by the current state of Mexico.

A complex history determines where one stands today, in beauty and pain. I decided to portray a person without clothing because of it's timelessness. The person only wears a mask of a contemporary Mexican doll yet sits on the throne of Moctezuma II (the active Aztec emperor when the Spanish invaded).

In front to the bottom left lies a firearm often used today to help wreck chaos in the country. The history of firearms that were introduced by the Spanish is complex, unwelcome, resulted in the broken spears of an empire over 500 years ago and kills too many still everyday.
